Juniper Tree Overlook
When we are headed to Red Rock Crossing State Park, stopping at this location is mandatory. On our last trip, it had snowed the night before giving us a whole new view of this old Juniper tree overlooking Cathedral rock

If you have ever driven to the Red Rock Crossing State Park in Sedona you have seen a few pull-offs to the left. These pull-off areas provide you with great vantage points to view Cathedral Rock and the beautiful surrounding area.Old Juniper Tree – Sedona – Arizona
At one of the stops, there is an old juniper tree at the top of the hill. This tree has two main branches that form a perfect V. This V makes a great fame for a long shot of Cathedral rock. I have seen countless images taken in that manner.
However, on the day of our visit the old Juniper tree had caught most of the snow leaving the red soil exposed. This created contrast between the snow and the red soil allowed the tree to stand out. So instead of using the tree as a frame, I decided to make the tree the focal point of the photograph.
The sun was low in the sky and this low angle hit perfectly on the trunk highlighting its unique shape. Of course, having Cathedral Rock in the background is not a bad thing either.
